Happy Holidays everyone!

I'm having a great xmas! I got Tales of Symphonia 2 from my parents, and an iPod Shuffle from my lovely girlfriend X3

My siblings got Fable 2 and an Xbox 360 controller. The day isn't quite over yet.

I've mostly been playing games all day, and enjoying some great meals. I hope everyone else is having a great season too.

Oh Japan and their innovations

Just a quick post about Japan. Check it out, it's some pretty innovative stuff here.

A happy holidays from Broccoli

I got a package today, it was sent to "Jon Fawkes". Yeah, it may not be my real name, but that's how it was addressed. That could be disregarded though.

About a week ago, maybe less, I got an email from a PR representative from Broccoli, asking if I wanted a "Leave it to Piyoko" dust jacket, and some stickers. I said sure, why not.

Here it is. My copy of Leave it to Piyoko with the dust jacket on it. Pretty nice, now it won't get covered in dust (though it was already quite shelfworn).

The package came with a note that said something along the lines of "Here is your LitP dust jacket and E'S stickers, as well as some Di Gi Charat merchandise"

I thought it was a big box for just a dust jacket.

So here is a picture of everything I got in the box (plus my advance reader's copy of E'S volume 1 for the hell of it).

A ceramic Puchiko coin bank (very nice), a Piyoko figurine, the E'S stickers (a crap load of them, as promised), some Di Gi Charat stickers, postcards, clear files (small and large), collectable cards, keychains (one piyoko and a few Aquarian Age), a pen, another keychain (bendy plastic Di Gi Charat one), some metal buttons, a wristband, and "seal collection book" (which I assume is a sticker book), some more stickers, and what appears to be a wallet or something (haven't quite figured it out yet). Holy crap, thanks Broccoli!

I'm no collector, so I opened up a lot of the merchandise. Here's a picture of me with the headband on, fumbling around with the wallet thingy. I don't look too far off from how I draw myself.

So, that was quite a surprise from Broccoli, they're certainly made my holiday. Broccoli has always been my favorite publisher, still are :)

Once again, thanks Broccoli. And to everyone else, I hope your holidays are as great as mine :D

Little Battlers!

It appears to be a Little Busters! doujin fighting game. It looks really run. The art looks loyal to the original game, the gameplay looks fast, and there appears to be a large variety of characters and settings.

It says "Little Battlers! 2" in the video, so maybe there's a first one.

I have no idea where to but this game.

Bolt!

So, I went to see Bolt yesterday, on a date with the lovely Kat-chan X3

It was a cute movie full of action. There were parts that were funny too, though none come to mind.

Saw that Cars short too. It was funny.

We saw it at AMC theaters, so we got to wander around the mall before and after the movie too. Godiva chocolate is so good X3

Just a quick summary. I hope more dates like that can be planned :)

'팡야 포터블' 한정판, 발매일 공개 루리웹 비디오 게임 뉴스

<b>'팡야 포터블' 한정판, 발매일 공개</b> 루리웹 비디오 게임 뉴스

It appears that Pangya PSP has been officially released (or at least, a released date has been set, I can't tell, I can't read Korean).

The basic edition is exactly what it sounds like. It's the game, and it appears to come with a card of some kind, maybe a collectible.

What I'm more excited about is the Limited Edition and the Limited Edition Pack. The LE is basically the game but with a different cover, one featuring Arin in one of her new costumes laying down nicely sprawled out.

The pack comes with the aforementioned game with special cover and *drum roll please*

A figurine measuring 16.5 cm. It's Kooh in one of her new costumes standing on what looks like a part of the Lunar Tomb holding up Dolfini. It's a very cute figure.

The pack also includes a Papel pouch for your PSP. Also very cute, I would love to have one of those to carry my PSP around in.

The OST also comes with this. I imagine it comes with all of the background music as well as the new ones (Starlight and Fly Away, as well as a few others that haven't been featured in the trailers I imagine).

All of that comes in a really nice box. Really nice.

That link has all of the pictures. I can't find a price, but I probably couldn't afford to buy it anyway (and then importing). I'm extreme tempted though since the PSP is region free. That LE pack would be the greatest thing to have ever.

Google flight simulator

Flight Simulator Keyboard Controls - Google Earth User Guide

Found this fun little easter egg in Google Earth. Press ctrl+alt+a or apple+alt+a to enable the flight simulator. After that, it will be available as a menu option.

It's really just a fun way to explore the world. It's google earth with a little HUD graphic overlay and some movement restrictions, but it's quite entertaining.

Google earth is free, and it only works on the client version (not the online version). The link above is to the controls to the flight simulator.

I kinda wish the crashing was more spectacular, but you can't have everything.

What a cute bird

Snowball is a Rockin' to the Back Street Boys Cockatoo!! - Vox

The link is to ESTi's blog. I think I mentioned in an earlier blogpost who ESTi is, but I'll recap. He is the one who did music for Ragnarok Online and Pangya.

Animals are funny creatures. This is a very entertaining birdy indeed. Of course, I'm just reposting a blog post, but whatever. Enjoy

PPR, Punch Punch Revolution = DDR + Punching Bag. :)

Definitely an interesting way of playing DDR. If you don't feel like working out your legs, this is a great way to work out your upper body!

Man, I haven't played DDR in forever. I really should, I might be rusty.

New banner by the lovely Kat-chan

So there, a new banner by my lovely girlfriend :3 featuring new art as well as some really old art ^^; Wow, the small little clip on the right was from before Kat was even my girlfriend. Amazing, looking back now.

Hatsune Miku ANN Submission by ~JonFawkes on deviantART

D: Just finished. It know, it's kinda a rush job, but I only realized that today was the deadline. I only hope I submitted it in time.

So here it is. A good...6 hours? I lost track ^^; I remember the Miku album I was listening to played through several times.

This just goes to show you: Procrastination will kill.

My day so far...

Well, I woke up to Tales of Vesperia and and my dad yelling "this sucks!"

Our car got stolen. Hopefully we can get it back before any parts are stripped or anything bad happens to it.

So yeah, just a quick note there

Fly System

I haven't posted anything in a while, so here.

http://fly-system.net/

It looks like a doujin group that specializes in creating 3D games. The biggest one in development right now looks like "Magical Battle Arena", featuring characters from Nanoha, Lina Inverse, Cardcaptor Sakura, and some more that I can't identify. A demo is up for download here so check it out, it's really cool.

Demo video here:

Testing blog-linking from youtube

I just figured out that you could link blogger to youtube, so I'm testing it out. Looks like it works pretty good. I usually find some neat videos, so you might see a few more of those kinds of posts ;)

Oh yeah, about the video. It's a music box playing "Dango Daikazoku" from the Clannad anime. It came with the LE disk 5 in Japan only. I don't think it's possible to buy it anymore though.

It's here! Tales of Symphonia 2!

It's the Dawn of the New World, as Tales of Symphonia 2 makes it to shelves everywhere in the US today. Not bad, considering the Japanese release was June 26 (only about 5 months ago). It's too bad I can't buy it on the day of its release, but I will play it as soon as I can!

There been a little bit of hype about it, especially since it's supposed to be a sequel to high-rated Tales of Symphonia. Hopefully it won't disappoint.

This would be the 5th Tales of game in my collection. Symphonia, Abyss, Vesperia, and World: Radiant Mythology are the ones I currently own. It's nowhere near a complete collection, but I'd say it's a pretty damn good one.

Maybe I'll get it for Xmas or something :)

New Pangya Portable Trailers

This is looking awesome! Finally a new character is revealed. Also, an even better look at the visuals. Looks like all of the settings are the same, and indeed the characters have a lot of their older costumes along with new ones.

Cien Looks awesome. New caddies (?) look amazing too. Can't forget about the music either. 2 awesome samples featured in those trailers. I hope this game comes to America.

These haven't been uploaded to youtube yet (at the time of this posting) so you'll have to deal with nico nico douga ;) EDIT: Alright, they're on youtube

Here's another link for more info on it (Korean). It looks like you can download the trailers here too: http://ruliweb.empas.com/data/rulinews/read.htm?num=16572

Fantasy Golf Pangya Portable

The trailer is old news, but I haven't blogged for a while so here's something.

A Pangya spinoff for the PSP, Fantasy Golf Portable features everything you love about Pangya and more. As you can see from the trailer, they've got new costumes and vastly improved graphics. While a lot of the clips from that trailer and pre-rendered animated sequences, I doubt the gameplay differs too much from what you would expect from Pangya.

A little more snooping reveals possible new characters too!

Straying from the original cast of 8 characters (it doesn't look like Lucia is in this game unfortunately), there appears to be a much larger cast (I count 18 spots for characters on the roster). This should definitely add a little more variety to the game. I wonder if they'll be adding new caddies too... The trailer also shows what appears to be a lot of the courses from the original game. Most of it looks like it's just rendered in the new style, but you never know, it was only a 15 second trailer.

I haven't seen any older costumes in the trailer. All of the art for this game shows the characters, but in new costumes. I suspect everything was redone about the game (visually), which means new costumes, settings, and rendering engine. The actual models for the characters don't appear to differ too much from the original game, but that's okay.

I bet the music will be similar, but with a few new tracks (IE the music featured in the trailer). ESTi (AKA Jinbae Park) is an awesome musician. He did a lot of the music for Pangya as well as other games like Ragnarok Online (SoundTeMP) and La Tale.

A lot of the art for the game can be found at the lead artist's website (Park Jeong Hoon AKA SeeDark). ESTi's site is also interesting, though it doesn't feature anything about the game. His blog has a little more about it, though it's in Korean.

Also, this site has some pretty pictures. I don't know how much info it provides about the game though.

I wonder if the PSP can play import games...?

Ugh...Virus

Well, my computer has a virus, so I'm posting from my laptop. This really sucks.

I'm pretty sure this happened when I was at school, trying to do some work. I plugged my flash drive into one of my peer's computers, and I noticed it was acting weird. I checked it out later and realized there was a virus that infected the flash drive, and that virus infected my desktop.

I really should be more conscious about stuff like this.

The virus seems to copy itself into every root drive and and replicates itself if it's deleted. The main way to spread is by flash drive. It also seems to block certain things from showing while using the internet. I tried to look for a way to get rid of it and it blocked a bunch of the sites. Tried the same sites on this laptop, they worked. It also blocked my antivirus from updating, and stopped any new antivirus from being installed.

Keep a lookout for it, be careful where you plug your flash drive. You'll know it when you find an "autorun.inf" file and "RECYCLER" folder on your flash drive and root folders that you can't delete. When you do delete it, and then refresh, it comes back.

On another note, it seems I've caught a virus myself. I've been feeling sick, but trying to get over it. Hopefully I'll be better by the weekend, not worst.

Uhg...doing homework will be difficult.

Election Day

Oh man, haven't posted anything in a while.

It's election day, but I'm not old enough to vote yet, so I don't really pay too much attention to it (though I'm told I really should).

Just wanted to post this funny little video here. Someone had too much time on their hands to do editing like that.

Supposedly this was real and that clip was captured from a live broadcast. I have no way to prove or disprove this. If it was real, I suspect it would have been on the news, and I haven't found any news clips about it. Nonetheless it's pretty funny.

Halloween 2008

First of all, major kudos to Mom. She managed a miraculous save and fixed the main part of my costume just now. I know, it's a little late, and Halloween's almost over, but I'm super happy about it nonetheless.

If you can't tell, I'm wearing Kaz's Cardinal Regalia costume (Pangya). 2 weeks of work, a little stress, and wazam!

Yeah, it's not 100% accurate, and the pants aren't even correct, but the main idea is portrayed I think. There was no way in hell I was gonna get it to be super accurate in only 2 weeks. Something like that would have taken a while summer or more.

Fabrics weren't expensive. They're super thin and were like a dollar a yard. It was about $15 for all of the cloth, a little more for the belt parts, pants and shoes I previously owned. Just goes to show you cosplay isn't necessarily expensive if you're going simply for the appearance. It takes a hell of a lot of time though, keep that in mind.

I dunno what else to say about it except Happy Halloween everyone!

Once again, major thanks to mom, she helped in a lot of this.

EDIT: Oh yeah, thanks to my sister for the pictures

Party and costume update

Awesome party last night. Kinda wish I could have posted this earlier but my internet was bugging out.

So yeah. We talked about stuff, ate a little, and watched a little of Shaun of the Dead. I'm not too good at talking about stuff (ironic, huh?), but lets just say I had a lot of fun. The knights need to get together more.

As for the costume, I'd say I'm almost half-way done, and it's about the half-way point in time (started a week ago, only a week left). I'll probably have pictures when I'm done.

Still not telling ;3

Explanation to Pangya

Alright, I've been meaning to explain it for a while now for those who don't know. I've talked about bits and pieces of it throughout the little posts with the Pangya label, but here goes an attempt at a full explanation.

Pangya is the online casual golf game. Its got origins in Korea. It's also popular in Japan. Here in America, it's called Albatross18.

It's online golf. While it may not sound that appealing (and honestly, it wasn't that appealing to me at first neither), it is surprisingly addicting. The colorful backdrops and characters, the simple yet sophisticated gameplay, and the overall feel while playing really makes it fun.

The settings. You can play on a battle ship, an icy canyon, a beach, a volcano, a windmill area; basically a lot of places you wouldn't normally play golf. This means the settings are extremely colorful and diverse. It's hard to get bored of the settings in my opinion.

There are the characters too. The characters are also extremely diverse: you've got your generic boy, generic girl, middle aged fat guy, handsome male, beautiful woman, cute (dare I use the term 'moe'?) magical girl, cool dark guy, and the loli (yep). Each character has a large number of costume to choose from, and being an online game, it's constantly updated.

There are lots of elements added to the game that you don't find in normal golf. The element I'm talking about is the ability to do trick shots. These shots change the trajectory of the ball, the landing area, basically, things you can't do in real golf. Trick shots also include "tomahawk" and "spike", which make the ball explode on impact when executed correctly.

I won't bother too much with explaining how the game is played. Basically, hit the spacebar one to start adjusting power, hit it again once it gets to the desired power, time the last hit to decide whether you hook or slice.

I've been caught in the marketing too. As with any free to play online game, you have to pay real money for some of the stuff. Oh, if I could spend more, I would. That's how into it I am.

A little more opinion here: what makes a good online game is the community, and so far, the community is better than any other I've played with.

I'll post a video of some of my (newbish) playing so you can get a sample of pangya. Maybe you can join me :) I'm always looking for people to play with. Sadly, I've gotten one friend to join, and he doesn't play too often.

Arg! Costuming will be impossible

My parents are absolutely impossible. Their unique philosophy and ways are completely unorthadox.

They believe that costuming is "make it yourself" "it doesn't have to look exact" blah blah blah

And I can't seem to get the point across, that if I want it to look like a certain character, the more accurate it looks, the more impressive the costume is.

But no, they're hella lazy. Because of that, I doubt I'll be able to finish my costume period, since I can't go out and get the materials that I need.

Is costume making really that hard to understand? Or are my parents just so thick headed they could headbutt the earth and the earth would break first?

Want T.T Cannot have

That's got to be one of the coolest outfits ever.

My main character is Kaz on Albatross18. He's just cool.

And this is teh awesome outfit.

It's too bad I'm a little short. The outfit costs Astros (the real world money currency) and that's something I don't quite have access to.

T.T So sad, I only need like a 10$ charge or something.

That outfit is only available from the shop for a limited time (until November 6th) so I've got to find some way to buy it soon.

If only I had my own paypal account or something. I could look for the gift cards, but every time I've tried I've had no luck.

T.T Wishes fading away quickly

Miku clock

I have added a nice little miku clock onto the blog page. Now you can always know what time it is! :D

If you click on her, she'll tell you the time (in Japanese). If you click on the little note next to her, she'll sing a little.

Found it here: http://nekokan.easter.ne.jp/flush/mikuclock.html

So starts the race to halloween

I have started an ambitious costume for Halloween. Considering it is my first time trying, the costume I chose probably wasn't the wisest choice. Nonetheless, with only about 2 weeks to halloween (1 week until an upcoming halloween party), along with school the whole time, I've got quite the work load. Hopefully this will all be worth it in the end.

I'm keeping the project a secret at the moment.

I need to get out more

Decided to take a walk outside my safe zone today. My safe zone being outside my little neighborhood.

Parents never let me get out, so I'll never learn, but dad let me out today.

Made it out okay, on the way back though, got a little lost. A little

Made it back okay, so yep.

Re:Package

I got an awesome Hatsune Miku CD today.

The producer is livetune. The whole CD is sung by Miku. Pretty impressive, I think this is the first commercial release album to feature Miku.

All of the songs are awesome. They've got a nice rhythm and tune, and it's a definite for people who like the electronica or j-pop genres. All songs are full length (it looks like an average of about 5 minutes per track) and are professionally produced for maximum awesome-ness

It came in a really nice box. It's all hologram-y and shiny. It appears to be a first press or limited edition or something, which is super nice. I tried not to ruin the box when I opened it, but the CD just wouldn't come out easily. I managed to get it out without any damage though.

You can probably see that I'm a major Miku fan. Check this CD out some time.

Random posting

I haven't posted anything in a very short while, but I feel like posting, so here

It's a cute picture of some of the Key girls together (one from each game). I don't know who made it, but it's very well done and stays pretty true to the art style.

Interesting looking...thing

Found an interesting picture on an image board. The artist appears to be the same one from Little Busters!

After a little more research, it appears that this isn't a Key production.

The studio appears to be mana. The series is called School Heart's. You probably figured that out from the picture though.

Whatever it is, it looks very cute, but I can't give much more info since I can't read [japanese]. Each character appears to be drawn by a different artist.

There appears to be voice samples on the site. I listened to a few of them, and they don't sound bad.

The site is giving me the impression that this is some kind of music CD or drama, but that may just be the theme of the presentation. It may very well be a game, but I can't verify that.

You can click the image on the side for a higher quality version.

Going for the Maximum Ride

I just finished the first Maximum Ride book (and about freaking time too). Amazing story, I must say. Very exciting and hard to put down once I started.

I borrowed this book from a friend last year. I guess it's about time I returned it. But that's something else.

Maximum Ride is a science fiction about some kids that went through a genetic experiments. Through this, they've gained wings, as well as various other abilities.

Yeah, I thought it was the most awesome thing ever too.

The book is a nice easy read, very not-boring. It is well paced and exciting. The plot is original and new, the characters are developed well, and the overall feel is something that can only be described as amazing.

Of course, considering the amount of books I've read, I'm probably not one to review, but I definitely recommend checking this out at the library or something when you can.

Candy Boy

No, it's not a Yaoi or shonen-ai. In fact, it's the complete opposite.

Candy boy is a really sweet story about 2 sisters. It's an Original Net Animation, I think it can be found on nico nico douga. No doubt someone has uploaded it to youtube too.

As I said, this is a really sweet series. It was just so cute and lovey dubby, but had a real sense of reality to it. There is no magic or saving the world stuff, it's just a lives of these two sisters.

The animation is crisp and smooth and some of the best quality I've seen, the character design is some of the best I've seen, and the story isn't hard to follow. It's got its sweet moments and its funny moments, and the overall series has a real charm to it.

Definitely recommend checking this series out. As far as I know, there are 2 episodes subbed. They're available on AnimeSuki. I hope to see more soon.

Just a quick note

2 Albatrosses and 1 HIO in 2 games. Considering I only just leveled up to the junior level, I'd say that's pretty good.

I should start recording my games. I can't find any good alternative to fraps though.

Kendo, and the likes

I got a chance to sit in on a Kendo class today (half a kendo class more accurately, most of the time was spent looking for the class).

It was really cool, super exciting. I watched both beginners and intermediate fighters, and they were quite impressive.

I wish I could have the chance to participate, but it seems unlikely. First, I have no way of transport. Second, I have no money to buy equipment with. T.T

If you want to check it out, you can go to the San Diego Kendo Bu website (assuming you're in San Diego) or just google for someplace close to you.

On an unrelated note, I think I'm the most unlucky person in the world when it comes to getting stuff I really want. I went to try to buy an Ultimate Game Card, but their systems were down so I couldn't buy them. Every other time I've tried they were out of stock or I didn't have money on me.

Brawl Online

I finally got my Wii online, was playing Brawl with some friends. Lots of fun, though laggy at points. I lost a buncha times, but I never lost to Jeff.

I'll probably play more later. I don't know what else to say about it. I'm not giving out my friend code either. Just go to the "play with anyone" option, you might catch me some time.

Okay, off to important stuff.

Porindama Online

A neat Ragnarok Online doujin game I found a while ago.

First, I'd like to say that I am a big fan of Ragnarok Online. I played it only for a little, but the time I had on it was awesome. I wish I could afford to play it.

I do not condone the use of illegal free servers. There is a legal free server I found, but it didn't have quite the same feeling when I played it.

Well, onto the main topic. Porindama Online is a Puyo Puyo clone. The art is super cute, the voice acting isn't bad, and the demo features mild H-content (only 4 playable characters, no CGs). The publisher is Cosplay Teahouse Soft (careful with this link, some NSFW stuff here). I have not found a place to buy it (I don't advocate for torrenting it illegally either).

The website is here though it looks like it's a little outdated. The demo appears to have been removed though. I'll post the version of the demo I have up later.

If you like Ragnarok and cute moe girls (with some H in there), check it out. That picture up there is the Kafra maid for those who don't recognize characters from the Ragnarok series.

Cosplay Teahouse Soft appears to be making a Nanoha doujin now. Similar style game (puyo clone). Looks interesting. There's another RO game, I might try it out.

World Jump Day

World Jump Day

Just surfing around and I found this.

It was just a hoax a few years ago, but the idea is pretty amusing:

If enough people jump at the same time, it would cause the earth to go out of orbit and into a new one, averting global warming

I wonder if there are any videos of this

Some awesome Hatsune Miku songs

Whoa, I listen to Miku too much. Well, I found two neat songs.

This とらいあんぐる☆Girl's Heart (Triangle☆Girl's Heart I think) by Shiki. I personally like this artist a lot. I wish I knew where to get a CD. That art for this video is also super cute.

This シンデレラ・ロマンス (Cinderella Romance) by Tatsh. Another great artist (who made Xepher in beatmania/DDR, yet another great song). The song samples Ode to Joy (Beethoven) for those who can't identify it (I know people who can't). Also has a very well done PV.

On a side note, I haven't played DDR in a while. I should.

Just an interesting Hatsune Miku song I found. I've seen the title translated as "The Disappearance of Hatsune Miku".

Crazy fast song, but it's an extremely serious and sad song. This song is quite an example of the potential tempo rates of the vocaloid program.

No credits once again. I wish I could read japanese, then I could read the description and see who made the song.

If you don't have time to listen to the [almost] 5 minute song, here's the short version

First order of business!

Nothing special, I just found a really cute little flash of Miku. She just stands there and blinks. As I said, nothing special. But it does look really pretty

here

I didn't make it, I just found it.

Um...I'm no good at introductions

Hello. I am Jon Fawkes of Skirt Work (also spelled Skirt-Work and Skirt/Work). Striving artist, and...that's it. I can't exactly say I'm a college student alone in my dorm, or that I'm much of an otaku (or very smart for that matter). I'm interested in Japan and stuff.

This is really embarrassing. Maybe my later posts will be more interesting.
